Starfires cruise in opener

Local roundup

BUTLER — Going up against the host team had little effect on the Starfires.
South Adams High School scored seven times in the second inning Tuesday and rolled to a 10-0, five-inning victory over the host Eastside Blazers in the opening round of the Class 2A Sectional 36 softball tournament.
Senior Lily Taing went 2-for-3 with three RBIs to lead the Starfires (11-18), who will take on Adams Central in the semifinal round at 5 p.m. today. Adams Central, which defeated SAHS 5-4 and 7-1 during the regular season, knocked off Churubusco 2-1 Monday.
Logan Chandler followed Taing with two hits, two runs and an RBI. Brianna Nevil drove in two runs, and Alaina Johnston scored twice.
Alyssa Bluhm gave up just three hits as she went the distance for the shutout. She struck out three batters.

Kahlig seeded sixth
TROY, Ohio — Fort Recovery High School senior Kylie Kahlig is seeded sixth in the shot put heading into the Division III regional track meet, which will be held Wednesday and Friday at Troy.
Kahlig’s toss of 36 feet, 7½ inches, ties her for the No. 6 spot with Ottoville’s Tammy Wannamacher. The pair finished tied for third place at Saturday’s district meet at Spencerville.

Olivia Cummings of Fairlawn is the regional favorite at 41 feet, ½ inch, and Lauren Kramer of Ottoville is seeded fourth at 37 feet, 6 inches. The top four athletes in each event advance to the state finals.
Kahlig is seeded eighth in the 400-meter dash at 1 minute, 0.15 seconds. Lockland’s Neah Brown is fourth at 59.46.
Elle Sutter, an FRHS sophomore, is the No. 8 seed for the 3,200 run after finishing as the sectional runner-up in 12:29.65. Lois Miller of Yellow Springs is No. 4 at 12:00.24.
