Starfires cruise over Manchester (10/01/07)

Local roundup

NORTH MANCHESTER - With sectional play just around the corner, the Starfires look in top form.

South Adams High School's girls soccer team dominated the Manchester Squires Saturday to the tune of a 5-0 victory. The win improved the team to 11-4 on the year with one more regular-season game to play Tuesday at Blackhawk Christian.

The Starfires got just one first-half goal, but it was all they needed as the defensive line of Jana Beitler, Megan Myers and Chelsey Roop did not allow a single shot on goal by Manchester in the contest. South Adams' first half score came 26 minutes in, when Kinsey Lengerich hit the first of her three tallies off an Ashton Morgan assist.

SAHS wasted little time putting the game away in the second half. Less than two minutes after the intermission Lengerich scored off another assist from Morgan, and then completed her hat trick at the 34:57 mark off a pass by Maddie Moore.

Morgan added a goal three minutes later for a 4-0 lead, and Maddie Moore scored with 14:19 on the clock for the final margin. Roop and Lengerich assisted on the final two goals.
