Starfires dismantle Warriors

BERNE — The Wes-Del Warriors scored one more point than South Adams senior Alyssa Bluhm.
The rest of the Starfires provided a 51-point cushion.
Four players scored in double figures Monday as the South Adams High School girls basketball team dismantled the Warriors 69-18.
Wes-Del has lost 61 straight games, with its last victory coming by a 42-21 score over the Starfires on Dec. 13, 2010.
Bluhm had a game-high 17 points for the Starfires, who improve to 7-2 on the season.
Sharon Balsiger and Dzejna Ahmetovic each tallied 15 points, and Sydney Willis added 12.
The Stafires are averaging 54.8 points per game so far this season, up from 31.2 ppg through the first nine games of last year. South Adams also has margin of victory of 34.2 points in its last four wins against Bluffton, Muncie Burris, Winchester and Wes-Del.

Fort Frosh still perfect
FORT RECOVERY — The Fort Recovery freshmen boys basketball team improved to 4-0 on the season Monday with a 51-46 win over the Marion Local Flyers.
Jason Roessner led the Indians with 14 points, adding two steals, one rebound and one assist.
Caleb Martin had 13 points, six rebounds, three assists and two steals for the Tribe, who also got nine and seven-point efforts from Travis Sutter and Kyle Knapke. Sutter added four rebounds and assists, and Knapke grabbed a team-high nine boards.

Wendel, Post lead FRMS
ARCANUM, Ohio — Cade Wendel scored 15 points and Evan Post added 12 as the Fort Recovery Middle School eighth grade boys basketball team defeated the Arcanum Trojans 42-32.
The Tribe seventh graders fell to the Trojans 29-25.
Clint Metzger tallied nine points for the Tribe eighth graders, pushing its record to 4-1 for the season. Ryan Braun added four points, and Ethan Schoen and Edie Siefring each tallied two points.
Payton Jutte tallied a team-high 15 points for the seventh grade Indians, who fell to 1-4 on the season. Clayton Pearson and Derek Siefring each added four points, and Jack Knapke scored two.

Hoop winners advance
DUNKIRK — The Dunkirk Elks Lodge hosted its Hoop Shoot on Sunday, with the winners advancing to the New Castle district Jan. 19.
Competitors from Westlawn, Redkey, Pennville, Albany and Eaton elementary schools as well as West Jay and Delta middle schools participated in the event.
Jazlan Montero and Joey Ullom, both of Eaton, were the 8- and 9-year-old girls and boys winners, with Gabriela Bilberry (Westlawn) and Caden Phenis (Redkey) earning runner-up honors.
Redkey’s Abbi Kuss and Albany’s Aidyn Coffee won the 10- and 11-year-old girls and boys division, with Grace Morgan (Westlawn) and Jackson Ullom (Eaton) finishing runner-up.
West Jay’s Shelby Caldwell and Gabe Faulkner won the 12- and 13-year-old girls and boys division, beating out Cora Conaster and Issac Griffis, both of Delta Middle School, respectively.[[In-content Ad]]
