Starfires drop two to Eastbrook

MARION - The Starfires found their offense in the second inning. It was still not quite enough.

South Adams High School's baseball team dropped a double-header Saturday to the host Eastbrook Panthers, 11-1 in five innings and 14-12.

Dustin Hunt keyed the offensive surge for the Starfires in game two by going 2-for-4 with a double, two runs and two RBIs. Gabe Sprunger and Taylor LeFever each added two hits and two RBIs, and Kyle DeArmond scored three times.

Caleb Sprunger took the loss, giving up four runs - three earned - on five hits and three walks in 3 2/3 innings of relief.

The game-one loss went to Andrew Smith, who allowed six runs on eight hits - Eastbrook hit three home runs - and a walk.

DeArmond accounted for both SAHS hits and the lone RBI in the loss. Caleb Armenta walked twice and scored a run.

FR JV tops Blazers

The Fort Recovery junior varsity baseball team rolled to a 14-3 victory Friday over National Trail. It lost both games of a double-header Saturday to Russia.

Hayden Pottkotter led the Tribe Friday, going 3-for-4 with two runs and an RBI. Jared Kahlig drove in three runs, and Brian Keller scored twice.

Ryan Schoen got the win, giving up three runs - one earned - on two hits and two walks.

Jason Pottkotter and Nathan Fortkamp took the losses in Saturday's double-header. Pottkotter had two hits and an RBI in game two, and Keller had the lone FRHS hit in the opener.

Tribe places 7th

NEW BREMEN, Ohio - Both Fort Recovery Middle School track teams placed seventh Saturday at the Junior High Cardinal Invitational.

The Indian boys scored 34 points behind victories by Josh Pohl and Mitch Vagedes. Coldwater won with 119.33 points.

Abby May posted the lone win for the FRMS girls, who scored 33 points. Minster was first with 118.5.

Pohl picked up his victory in the 1,600-meter run, posting a time of 5-minutes, 19.64 seconds. He was second in the 800 run in 2:28.7.

Vagedes cleared the bar at 9 feet, 7 inches to take the top spot in the pole vault.

May powered the girls team by winning the 200 hurdles in 33.36. She was also the runner-up in the 100 dash in 13.7.

Fort Recovery's girls were fourth in the 4x100 relay, and the bys were sixth in the 4x400 relay.

Stars defeat Bluffton

BERNE - The South Adams Middle School track teams defeated Bluffton Friday, the girls by a 91-18 score and the boys 60-49.

Alyssa Bluhm powered the Starfire girls with wins in the 100-meter dash in 14.1 seconds and the 200 dash in 31.1. Kristen Muselman also won two events with times of 2-minutes, 49 seconds in the 800 run and 6:07 in the 1,600 run.

Alex Kistler matched Bluhm's effort by taking the boys 100 dash in 12.7 and 200 dash in 28 flat. Evan Liechty mirrored Muselman with times of 2:22 in the boys 800 run and 5:04 in the 1,600 run.

Also winning events for the girls team were Michaela Rupp, Allison Amstutz, Leah Mitchel, Brandi Toland and Maizy Switzer.

Portland wins two

Portland's 8-and-younger and 10-and-younger baseball teams each won Sunday in the Tri-County All-Star League.

Ryan Schlecty led the 8-and-younger squad to a 13-0 victory over Albany with a home run, a triple and three runs. Mike Schlecty also hit a home run.

Caleb Kunkle and Zach McKinney each had two hits, including a double and two runs as the 10-and-younger team defeated Albany 10-1.

Portland's 12-and-younger team lost to Albany, 7-2. Levi Stant had two hits and scored both Portland runs.[[In-content Ad]]
