Starfires earn All-ACAC honors

FORT WAYNE — The South Adams High School girls golf team had three players earn All-Allen County Athletic Conference tournament honors Thursday at Cedar Creek Golf Club as the Starfires finished second in the first ACAC girls golf tournament.
Sophomore Sydney Willis earned match medalist and All-ACAC honors, firing a 39 to lead the Starfires to a 192 team score in the four-team tournament.
Teammates Alaina Johnston (49) and Kellie Lehman (51) also earned All-ACAC honors.
The host Leo Lions won the inaugural tournament with a 176. Southern Wells (220) finished third and Bluffton (239) fourth.
Willis struggled through the first four holes, shooting 4-over-par, including a triple bogey on the par-3 13th. But she would shoot even on the final five holes to earn a three-shot victory over Leo’s Ashley Kimes.
Jaci Gorrell (53) and Alleigh Wingler (56) rounded out the top five for the Starfires, and both earned All-ACAC honorable mention.

Liechty leads soccer
MUNCIE — Sophomore forward Riley Liechty scored two first half goals and assisted on another as the South Adams girls soccer team shut out the Muncie Southside Rebels 4-0 Thursday.
Senior Michaela Rupp assisted on Leichty’s first goal, and Leichty returned the favor in the first half when Rupp extended the Starfires’ lead to 3-0.

Freshman Tori Reiley added another insurance goal for the Starfires (2-5) in the second half. Classmate Virginia Lagos assisted on her goal.
South Adams held the Rebels to only three shots on goalkeeper Jordan Brown, as she earned her first win and shutout of the season.
Rupp led the Starfires’ offensive attack with four shots on goal, and Lagos and Leichty each added three shots. Ellie Kaverman had two shots.
The Starfires return to the pitch at 5 p.m. Thursday at New Haven.

Varsity, JV fall
OSSIAN — The South Adams varsity and junior varsity volleyball teams lost in straight games Thursday against the host Norwell Knights.
Cady Farlow led the varsity Starfires with six kills, five blocks and eight digs in the 25-21, 25-23, 25-13 loss. Alyssa Bluhm added nine assists, five kills and three digs. Lauren Smith tallied nine digs.
In JV action, Abby Myers and Kylie Grabau led the Starfires with two kills each in the 25-10, 25-13 loss to the Knights. Myers also added nine digs, and Grabau tallied five aces as well as three assists, digs and blocks.
Casi Evans added nine digs, while Chastity Guerecca and Haley Archer tallied six and four digs respectively.[[In-content Ad]]
