BERNE - The South Adams High School girls soccer team is still looking for its first win after falling 3-1 in their Allen County Athletic Conference opener against the visiting Garrett Railroaders.
Garrett scored the only first-half goal when Heather House connected on a shot with 11:38 left on the clock. The Railroaders pushed their lead to 2-0 just two minutes into the second half.
Victoria Smith gave the Starfires (0-4) their only goal of the game at the 28-minute mark, and Garrett scored for the final margin off of a corner kick with nine minutes remaining.
Both teams finished with 11 shots on goal, with Smith recording four for South Adams. Katrina Hawkins added three shots, and Chelsey Nevil had two.
Jessie Beavers recorded seven saves, and Hannah Muhlenkamp had two saves.
'Dogs defeat golfers
FORT WAYNE - The host New Haven Bulldogs handed the Starfire girls golf team a 181-211 loss Tuesday.
Tricia Crider led South Adams as she parred the 11th hole at McMillan Park Golf Course and added five bogeys for a 44. New Haven's Tina Mettert was the medalist with a 43.
Jansen Yoder had a par and two bogeys for SAHS to shoot 54. Kaytlyn Pierce shot 56, and Grace Dobler finished at 57.
Kristen Lehman shot 60.
Keri Sank's 60 was the top JV score for South Adams in a 218-261 loss.
Spikers fall to No. 4
DECATUR - The Starfire volleyball team slipped to 1-8 Thursday as it fell 25-8, 25-10, 25-8 to the host Bellmont Squaws, who are ranked fourth in Class 3A.
Taylor Farlow had three kills and two blocks for South Adams. Kassy Potts totaled seven digs.
SAHS also lost the junior varsity match 25-10, 25-14 and the junior varsity match 25-6, 25-10.[[In-content Ad]]
