Starfires end 8-game skid

BERNE — After taking a step in the right direction Saturday, the Starfires kept their momentum going.
South Adams High School’s boys soccer team stopped an eight-game losing streak Monday, shutting out the visiting Union City Indians 5-0.
It was the first victory for the Starfires, who had been shut out seven straight times before getting on the board Saturday in a 5-3 loss to Woodlan, since topping Muncie Southside 8-2 on Aug. 29.
Hirotaka Asaoka tallied the first goal for the Starfires on assists from Collin Lahr and John O’Donnell, and Dustin Dellinger added two more scores in the opening half. Dellinger finished off a hat trick in the second half, and Ivan Fernandez cashed in the fifth goal.
O’Donnell and Lahr each finished with a pair of assists. L.J. Moser had a pair of saves for SAHS (2-12).

Lehman tops FR
FORT RECOVERY — The Division IV No. 2 Lehman Catholic Cavaliers proved too powerful Monday for the Fort Recovery volleyball team, handing the Indians a 25-12, 25-16, 25-14 defeat.
Kylie Kahlig had five kills, four blocks and three service points in the defeat, and Ericka Lennartz totaled six service points and three kills. Abby Backs came up with eight digs, and Kara Faller added five blocks.

Emily Link finished with five digs, and Kelsey Fiely had three kills.
Fort Recovery won the junior varsity match 25-17, 25-23 to improve to 7-3. Cassidy Rammel led the way with six assists, three kills and two blocks.
The freshman team lost Monday to Greenville, 20-25, 25-15, 25-22.

Kahlig wins tourney
CELINA, Ohio — Fort Recovery senior Jared Kahlig turned in a career effort Saturday to walk away with the Midwest Athletic Conference championship in boys golf.
Kahlig led the Indians, who finished fifth out of 10 teams with a 354, with a 3-over-par 75 at Fox’s Den Golf Club. He became the school’s first conference champion in boys golf as he won by three strokes over Darin Bergman of New Bremen.Gage Retz and Hayden Pottkotter followed Kahlig as they each shot 89 for the Indians. Derek Rammel posted a 101.
Versailles and St. Johns each finished at 342, with Versailles taking the MAC tournament title by way of the fifth-player tiebreaker.[[In-content Ad]]
