Starfires fall to No. 10 Braves (01/22/05)

BERNE — The South Adams boys basketball team continues to stay in games, but just can’t quite come up with enough for victories.
Friday night it stuck around with the Class A No. 10 Fort Wayne Blackhawk Christian Braves, falling by a 55-45 score.
The Starfires (1-10) were held to just six points in the first quarter. Still, they only trailed by six points, and pulled to within 26-22 at the half.
They were still only down by seven points heading into the final quarter, but couldn’t make a run at the win as they fell by 10 points.
Corey LeMaster led a trio of South Adams players in double figures with 14 points, although he did not score in the fourth quarter. Brandon Liechty also went scoreless in the final period, but still finished with 10 points, and Jordan Sharp also scored 10 points.
Events postponed
All Jay County sporting events which were scheduled today have been postponed.
The Patriot girls basketball game at Indianapolis Howe has been rescheduled for Wednesday at 6:30 p.m.
The Olympic Athletic Conference swim tournament, which was to be held at Jay County, has been tentatively set for Saturday, Jan. 29. The site has yet to be determined.
The OAC wrestling tournament will be held Monday at Anderson Highland.
EJ tops Jets
PORTLAND — The East Jay wrestling team bounced back from a one-point, opening-match loss to Delta, evening its record with a 52-34 win over the Adams Central Jets Thursday.
Four wrestlers turned in pins for the Chiefs, all doing so in the second period. Ricky Davis (80) finished off his match the fastest in a time of 3:06. Zach Somers (85) wasn’t far behind with a pin in 3:11, and Caleb Culy (110) and Casey Kenney (95) added pins in 3:51 and 3:54 respectively.
Cameron Pfeifer (90) turned in a 12-0 major decision victory.
Adding wins for East Jay at the junior varsity level were: Dyllan Derrickson (85), Colin Elliott (90), Scott Houston (115) and Jake Boyer (175).[[In-content Ad]]
