Starfires get 1st win

BERNE - Four different players tallied goals Thursday as the South Adams High School boys soccer team picked up its first win of the year.
The Starfires scored three times in the second half to earn a 4-1 victory over the visiting Keystone Crusaders.
T.J. Burnfield tallied the deciding goal six minutes into the second half off of an assist from Kyle Glidewell. Blake Bauman added a penalty kick goal 30 seconds later after Gabe Sprunger was tackled inside the 18-yard box, and Zach Sharp added a goal on an assist from Matt Fox with 18:21 remaining.
Keystone's lone goal came just 13 minutes into the game, and Glidewell evened the score 11 minutes later on an assist from Cam Lengerich.
Star golfers top two
GENEVA - Tricia Crider turned in another impressive round Thursday to lead the South Adams girls golf team to a double victory.
The Starfires finished with a 193 to knock off visiting Winchester (205) and Blackford (206) at Golf Club of the Limberlost.
Crider racked up six pars, including three in a row on holes three through five and another pair back-to-back to close her round. She earned medalist honors with a 4-over-par 40.
Top scores from the opposing teams came from Jill Morrison (44) for Winchester and Carly Foy and Carly Clock (48) for Blackford.
Jansen Yoder came through with the second best score of the evening as she finished with four pars. She added three bogeys to post a 43. Grace Dobler had two pars in her round of 55, and Sarah Muselman notched three bogeys as she also shot 55.
Tigers top SA spikers
BERNE - The Bluffton Tigers handed the South Adams volleyball team its 10th loss of the year Thursday, 25-21, 25-16, 27-29, 25-22.
Karen Bollenbacher led the Starfires in the loss with 22 kills and 15 digs. Amber Neuenschwander put up 42 assists and Kassy Potts had 21 digs.
Taylor Farlow added 12 kills.
FRMS football splits
ANNA, Ohio - Defense was the name of the game Thursday as Fort Recovery's eighth grade football team won 6-0 while the seventh graders suffered a 24-0 loss to the Anna Rockets.
Kyle Timmerman scored the lone points of the day for the Indians. He had a 65-yard run in the opening quarter for a touchdown.
Anna scored eight points each in the second, third and fourth quarters of the seventh grade game.[[In-content Ad]]
