HUNTINGTON - The South Adams High School golf team completed its season Friday by finishing last in a 10-team field at the the sectional tournament hosted by Huntington North.
The Starfires shot 399 at LaFontaine Golf Club, putting them five strokes behind ninth-place Bluffton. The host Vikings won with a score of 304, and Norwell was second at 310.
Marion shot 327 to take the third and final regional qualifying spot. The top three scorers not on qualifying teams - Derek Ralston (75) and John Hix (79) both of Eastbrook, and Dustin Kirby (79) of Mississinewa - also advance to regional competition.
South Adams managed just two scores in the 90s as both Mark Farris and Thurman Pursley finished at 99. Stuart Poulson shot 100, Landyn Waugh rounded out the team score at 101 and Ryan Moser finished with a 106.
Ace at Portland
Curt Compton recorded a hole-in-one Wednesday at Portland Golf Club.
Compton's ace came on the 190-yard, par-3 second hole. He used a 5-iron, and Bill Hampson and Jason Knapke witnessed the shot.[[In-content Ad]]
