Starfires split at Adams Co. Classic

DECATUR — The South Adams High School baseball team split its games Saturday at the Adams County Classic hosted by Bellmont.
The Starfires knocked off Adams Central 12-11, but lost 5-1 to the host Braves.
Blake Fox went 4-for-4 with two doubles and four RBIs in the win as SAHS gave up a five-run lead before scoring the game-winner in the bottom of the seventh inning. Corey Seffernick had a single, a double, three runs and three RBIs.
Alex Augsberger got the win as he struck out two in 1 1-3 scoreless innings of relief.
Dustin Wanner took the loss against Bellmont, giving up five runs — three earned — on nine hits and three walks as he went the distance.
Wanner finished with two hits, and Seffernick had a single and a run.

Cougars top Fort
VAN WERT, Ohio — Fort Recovery’s softball team suffered a pair of five-inning losses Saturday, falling 16-3 and 14-4 to the Van Wert Cougars.
Beca Tobe took the loss in the first game as she gave up 14 hits and two walks. Ashley Homan allowed 11 hits and a walk in the game-two defeat. Eighteen of Van Wert’s 30 runs were unearned.
The Indians (2-7) hit a home run in each game, with Taylor Guggenbiller connecting in the first and Jackie Fullenkamp going deep in the second. Guggenbiller was 3-for-3 in the opener with two runs and an RBI, and Karissa Will added three hits and an RBI.
Fullenkamp had two hits and two runs in the second game.

FR falls to Lakers
LEWISTOWN, Ohio — The Fort Recovery baseball team managed just five hits Saturday as it dropped a pair of five-inning games, 11-1 and 10-0 to the host Indian Lake Lakers.
Ryan Gaerke went the distance in the game-one loss, giving up 11 runs — nine earned — on six hits and 10 walks. Alex Thien suffered the game-two defeat as he allowed eight runs — five earned — on seven hits and four walks in three innings.
Jacob Muhlenkamp singled and scored the lone run of the day for the Tribe (3-7). Gabe Riegle and Chad Schroer also had hits in the opener. Blake Boughman and Elijah Kahlig added singles for the Indians in game two.
