Starfires split with Leo, SW

South Adams roundup

GENEVA — Four rounds of 50 or better resulted in a split for the Starfires.
South Adams High School’s girls golf team posted a 197 to finish ahead of the Southern Wells Raiders (226) Thursday at Golf Club of the Limberlost. The Leo Lions won the match with a 194.
Kristal All racked up three pars for the Starfires (7-5), playing even on the 370-yard, par-5 second hole, the 385-yard, par-4 fifth and the 258-yard, par-4 seventh. She also had three bogeys on the way to a 48.
Lilly Barker of Leo earned medalist honors with a 38, and Megan LeFebvre paced Southern Wells with a 53.
Sam Schwartz finished her round for SAHS with a par on the 85-yard, par-3 ninth hole for a 49, and Kristen Lehman and Abbie Fisher each carded 50s.

Lions top netters
LEO — The Starfires boys tennis team fell short Thursday in a 3-2 loss to the Leo Lions.
Two matches went to three sets, with Scott Hoeppner of SAHS defeating Mason Heller 6-3, 4-6, 6-2 at No. 2 singles. But Mark Muselman fell 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 to Nick San Gidcomo at No. 3 singles as the Starfires came up short.
The other South Adams victory came from Ian Frank and Derek Schwartz at No. 1 doubles.
J.D. Tarr and Jonathan Steffen lost 7-6 (7-5), 6-4 to Dustin Lukemire and Morgan Brook at No. 2 doubles, and Alex Huber fell 6-0, 6-1 to Fernando Vazquez at No. 1 singles.

South Adams won the junior varsity match 3-2 behind victories from Brayden Myers, Landon Lehman and the team of Jared Rife and Landon Lehman.

Norwell beats spikers
OSSIAN — The visiting Starfire volleyball team fell in three games Thursday, 25-16, 25-17, 25-21 to the host Norwell Knights.
Chelsea Bollenbacher totaled 11 kills, four aces and two blocks for South Adams, which dropped to 3-8. Alyssa Bluhm had nine assists and four kills.
Makenzie Jennings had 13 digs, six assists and five kills in the junior varsity team’s 21-25, 25-24, 15-10 loss to Norwell.

Boys soccer shut out
BERNE — South Adams’ boys soccer team suffered its second straight shutout defeat Thursday by a 6-0 score to the visiting Leo Lions.
The Starfires (1-5), who fell 6-0 Tuesday to Garrett, trailed just 1-0 at the half. But they managed just three shots on goal for the game, and Leo pulled away in the second half.
Jacob Robbins had a pair of second-half goals for the Lions, who are 4-5. L.J. Moser recorded 10 saves for South Adams.[[In-content Ad]]
