Starfires tankers crush South Side (11/21/03)

Freshman Channing Yoder grabbed a pair of individual victories Thursday, leading the South Adams girls swim team to a 111-59 victory over Fort Wayne South Side.
Yoder also picked up a relay victory as she contributed to three of the team’s eight event wins. The Starfires took the top two spots in five events, and swept the top three once.
The first victory for Yoder came in the 100-yard freestyle. She finished ahead of teammate Ashley Gresla with a time of 1-minute, 4.78 seconds.
Yoder led the South Adams sweep as well, finishing the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:18.92 with teammates Lacy Rhoades and Courtney Hewitt in second and third respectively. She teamed with Robyn Habegger, Haleigh Lehman and Chelsea Yoder to win the 200-yard medley relay in 2:08.19.
Lehman, a freshman, earned a victory in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:34.44. Chelsea Yoder was second in the race.
Chelsea Yoder dominated the 500-yard freestyle, winning by more than 10 seconds in a time of 6:19.96. Margaret Beymer won the 50-yard freestyle in 29.89, just seventh tenths ahead of Hewitt.
Lehman, Gresla, Beymer and Chelsea Yoder teamed to win the 200-yard freestyle relay in 1:58.88, and Talitha Maven, Habegger, Gresla and Beymer finished the 400-yard freestyle relay in 4:27.24 to take first place.
South Adams will try to stay unbeaten when it travels to Marion Tuesday at 6 p.m.
Game postponed
East Jay Middle School’s basketball games scheduled for Monday against Delta have been postponed. They will be rescheduled for a later date.
Runaway winner
A Run Run Runaway, a quarter horse owned and trained by rural Portland resident Sheri Loy, won a race and a season points title Sunday at Hoosier Park in Anderson.
The 6-year-old grey gelding won the $15,000 Bradford Stakes for the second consecutive year with jockey Alvin Brossette, and also secured the championship in the Mid-American John Deere Racing Series.
Runaway had a one-point lead in the series heading into the Bradford Stakes. That lead was over Casa De Royality, which was scratched, giving Loy’s horse the title.[[In-content Ad]]
