Starfires tie with Bluffton

BERNE — The South Adams High School girls swim team finished in a tie with the visiting Bluffton Tigers Thursday with both teams scoring 88 points. The Starfire boys fell 103-75.
Kara DeLong took first place in the 200-yard freestyle in 2 minutes, 15.23 seconds and the 100 backstroke in 1:05.54 to lead the SAHS girls (6-5-1). Cory Sank added a pair of victories for the Starfire boys (2-7), posting winning times of 5:54.91 in the 500 freestyle and 1:09.17 in the 100 backstroke.
Cady Farlow and Michaela Rupp took first and second in the 100 breaststroke with Farlow winning in 1:11.53, and Rupp added a victory in 1:11 in the 100 butterfly.
Jacob Werst was first in the 200 individual medley in 2:26.24 with teammate Mitchel Kaverman in second place. Kaverman also took the top spot in the 100 breaststroke in 1:12.29.
East Jay rolls
MUNCIE — East Jay Middle School’s eighth grade girls basketball team turned in a dominant effort on the road Thursday in a 37-4 victory over Delta.
Gabby Hart totaled nine points and five steals as the Chiefs improved to 7-2. Cheyenne Loy followed with six points, and Kelli Morningstar, Sydney Robbins and Mallory Marshall added four points apiece.
Tribe boys split
FORT RECOVERY — The Fort Recovery eighth grade boys basketball team stayed perfect Thursday with a 38-32 victory over Versailles. The seventh grade team fell 40-11.
Jackson Hobbs totaled 12 points for the Indian eighth graders (7-0), who built a nine-point halftime lead. J.J. Overton added nine points.
Austin Faller scored four points to lead the seventh grade squad (3-4).
Caleb Martin followed with three points.
West Jay wins
UNION CITY — West Jay’s sixth grade boys basketball team improved to 2-0 Thursday with a 42-31 victory over host West Side.
Cole Stigleman scored 15 points to lead the Eagles. Connor Davis followed with eight.
Max Moser and Davis scored eight points apiece Tuesday as WJMS opened its season with a 35-22 victory over Selma.
In Thursday’s B team game, Mitch Ferguson scored five points to lead the Eagles to a 14-4 win.[[In-content Ad]]
