South Adams roundup

GENEVA - The South Adams boys golf team eked out a victory on its home course, holding off the Adams Central Jets 183-186 Tuesday at Wabash Valley Golf Club.

Adams Central had the top two scores - Josh Goulet was the match medalist at 39 - but the Starfires were more consistent as they earned the win.

Phil Goodwin posted the top Starfire total with a 43, and Jay Schwartz was two strokes back with a 45. Randy Potts shot 46, and Thurman Pursley and Landyn Waugh sealed the SAHS win with matching 49s.

Softball falls to Cowan

COWAN - South Adam's softball team fell short Tuesday in a battle of state-ranked teams.

The Class 2A No. 7 Starfires led a 1-0 lead for much of the game, but suffered a 2-1 loss to the Class A No. 9 Cowan Blackhawks.

South Adams (15-8) scored its only run in the second inning and kept the lead as Amber Melick blanked the Blackhawks through five. But, Cowan scored twice in the bottom of the sixth to avoid just its fourth loss of the season.

Melick took the loss as she gave up the two runs on seven hits while striking out four.

Jana Beitler singled and scored the Starfires' run on an RBI from Anne Lehman.[[In-content Ad]]
