Rockets drop pair

CELINA, Ohio - A trip to Mercer County brought two more losses for the Portland Rockets Sunday as they fell 4-2 and 4-0 to the host Grand Lake Mariners.

The Portland bats struggled all day against the Mariners' pitching, totalling just three hits while striking out 23 times.

South Adams High School graduate Daniel Bollenbacher gave the Rockets a chance in the opening as he struck out six batters and allowed just three hits before leaving the game in the sixth inning with the game tied 2-2. But Grand Lake scored two runs, both unearned, in the bottom of the sixth for the final margin.

Trevor Kill took the game-two loss, giving up four runs in three innings. Tyler Mills and Bill Geeslin combined for three scoreless innings of relief.

Scott Rines recorded his third career hole-in-one Wednesday at Portland Golf Club.

The shot came with a pitching wedge on the 135-yard, par-3 eighth hole at PGC during men's league play. Bruce Hedges, Clyde Bray and Eldon Morrical witnessed the shot.[[In-content Ad]]
