BERNE — It was an exciting day of softball at South Adams Saturday, but the home team was on the short end.
Both games were decided by one run with the Norwell Knights topping the Starfires 5-4 and 2-1.
South Adams (2-3) scored runs late — one in the bottom of the sixth in the opener and one in the bottom of the seventh of game two — but couldn’t manage to forge a tie.
Amber Melick took the opening-game loss, her first of the season, as four of the five runs against her were unearned thanks to five errors. She gave up seven hits and a walk.
Kalya Coblentz finished with a hit, a run, an RBI and two stolen bases. Jordan Lehman had three hits and an RBI, and Renee Neuenschwander added two hits.
The loss in the second game went to Ashton Morgan as she gave up two runs on five hits and two walks. She struck out four batters.
Lehman finished 2-for-3 with an RBI and a stolen base. Coblentz had three hits and two steals.
