Stars earn eighth victory

DALEVILLE — A year ago, the South Adams High School girls basketball team won its eighth game of the season in the sectional opener.
Through 10 games this season, the Stars have already matched that total.
Three players scored in double figures Thursday night as the Starfires rolled over the Daleville Broncos, 63-36.
Sydney Willis led the Starfires with 17 points, with Alyssa Bluhm adding 16 and Dzejna Ahmetovic chipping in 15.
Brandi Granger of Daleville led all scorers with 20 points.
South Adams (8-2) held Daleville (0-8) scoreless through the first period, and totaled 22 points in the second to take a 37-9 lead into intermission.

Farlow shines in loss
BERNE — It’s been a numbers game for the South Adams swim team, and Norwell had the advantage Thursday.
Cady Farlow won both of her individual events, but her effort alone wasn’t enough as the Starfire girls fell to the Knights 106-51.
South Adams’ boys squad dropped a close one to Norwell 96-86.
Farlow placed first in the 200-yard individual medley in two minutes, 20.18 seconds, and also picked up a victory in the 100 breaststroke (1:08.30).
Riley Thompson (100 backstroke) and Victoria Richardson (500 freestyle) also picked up wins for the Starfires.
The Starfire boys got wins from Chris Inniger (200 freestyle), Daniel Burson (200 individual medley) and David Steffen (100 freestyle).
The trio also teamed up with Drew Lefever to earn the other win for the Starfires in the 400 freestyle relay.

Thien outscores Hawks
FORT RECOVERY — Grace Thien scored 19 points for the Fort Recovery Middle School
eighth grade girls basketball team.
The Mississinawa Valley Blackhawks scored 18 points as a team.
Thien outscored the entire Blackhawk team Thursday as the Indians rolled to a 50-18 victory.
In seventh grade action, Fort Recovery topped Mississinawa Valley 20-11.
Carley Stone scored nine points for the Tribe eighth graders, and Kiah Wendel also chipped in eight points.
For the seventh grade Indians, Aleigha Jenkins led all Tribe scorers with six points, with Maddy Rammel adding four points and Elise Gehle netted three.

Fort boys tame Tigers
ANSONIA, Ohio — Cade Wendel and Evan Post both scored 10 points in the Fort Recovery eighth grade boys basketball team’s 40-33 victory over the Ansonia Tigers on Thursday.
The seventh grade Indians fell to the Tigers, 34-32.
Ethan Schoen also netted six points for the Tribe eighth graders.
Payton Jutte led all Fort Recovery seventh graders with 13 points, and Mason Will added nine points.

Caldwell leads Eagles
WINCHESTER — West Jay eighth grader Shelby Caldwell scored a season-high 18 points Thursday as the Eagles edged Winchester Driver 25-22.
The Eagle eighth graders dropped their first game of the season, losing 28-16 to Driver.
Caldwell grabbed seven points and tallied five steals to go with her high-scoring affair, leading the West Jay seventh graders to their fourth straight win to begin the season.
Dawn Minnich added three points, and Rhegan Shimp and Randi Ferguson each scored a pair. Kensey Litton added five rebounds and steals, and Shimp grabbed six boards.
Hanna Ault led the eighth grade Eagles (3-1) with 13 points while grabbing five rebounds and recording three steals. Kady Finnerty also added three points and five rebounds.[[In-content Ad]]
