Stars fall to ACAC rival (12/18/06)

MONROEVILLE - The South Adams boys basketball team dropped its second in a row Friday night, 52-46 to the host Heritage Patriots.

The Starfires (3-3) opened with three wins in their first four games, but have since lost to Jay County and Heritage. After scoring at least 55 points in each of their first three games, they have been limited to 42 and 46 in the last two.

The offense disappeared for South Adams in the third quarter after they held a one-point halftime lead. The Patriots (2-3) outscored SAHS 11-4 in the third quarter and then hit 14-of-20 foul shots in the fourth quarter to take the win.

Jordan Sharp's 15 points led the Starfires in the losing effort, and Daniel Bollenbacher added 12 points. Darin Toland scored eight points, hitting a pair of fourth-quarter 3-pointers.

Grant Selking of Heritage topped all scorers with 16 points, scoring half of those in the fourth quarter. Eric Ganaway added 10 points, and Austin Beard scored eight.

Indians win second

BOTKINS - Fort Recovery's freshman boys basketball team pulled within a game of .500 Saturday with a 34-31 victory over the Botkins Trojans.

Cody Fiely totaled 12 points and five rebounds in leading the Indians, who are now 2-3. Craig Tobe added 10 points and six rebounds, and Nate Keller also grabbed five boards.

EJMS knocks off Raiders

PONETO - The host Raiders stayed close in both games, but the East Jay Chiefs still came away with a couple of victories Thursday. The EJMS eighth grade girls topped Southern Wells 32-27, and the seventh graders scored a 20-19 victory.

Cara Garringer and Erin Hunt teamed to pace the eighth grade squad with 12 and 11 points respectively.

Danielle Wellman put in five points for the seventh grade game.[[In-content Ad]]
