Stars hand Jay season's first loss (03/10/05)

PORTLAND — South Adams defeated both Jay County middle school swim teams Tuesday, winning the girls competition 194-79 and the boys 102-71. It marked the first loss of the season for the Jay County girls.
Cori Vormohr and Steven Kelly were the only double-winners for the teams.
Vormohr’s wins came in back-to-back events. She took the 50-yard butterfly in 28.30 seconds, and dived right back in the pool for a fourth-place finish in the 100 freestyle in 58.22.
Kelly was first in the 50 butterfly in 36.02 for the boys. He was also the diving winner with 90.65 points.
Adding wins for the girls team were Ivy Simons (one minute, 15.74 seconds) in the 100 backstroke and Lauren Murrell (1:25.19) in the 100 breaststroke. April Acker (96.70) was first in diving.
The team also won the 200 freestyle relay.
Other wins for the boys team came from Chance Milligan in the 50 freestyle (27.42) and Thomas Bowen in the 100 individual medley (1:20.11).
Hoops league
The Randolph County YMCA is looking for teams for its two spring men’s basketball leagues.
Games will be played on Tuesday and Thursday nights beginning during the final week of March. The season runs through the first week of May.
