BERNE — Dzejna Ahmetovic turned in a career performance Monday to lead the Starfires to their second victory.
The South Adams High School sophomore recorded a double-double to lead the team to a 65-32 girls basketball victory over the visiting Wes-Del Warriors (0-7).
Ahmetovic shot 10-of-18 from the field for the Starfires (2-8), who led 22-5 after the opening period. She also had 13 rebounds and seven blocks.
Lyndsey Chandler, a senior, joined Ahmetovic in double figures with 11 points and also came up with five steals. Lauren Smith added seven points, and Sharon Balsiger grabbed eight rebounds.
In the junior varsity game, Mackenzie Jennings scored 10 points to lead South Adams to a 36-27 win.

JC freshmen win
The Jay County freshman boys basketball team kept its hot streak going Monday with a 42-23 victory over the visiting South Adams Starfires.
Nate Brackman nearly matched the entire SAHS squad as he led the Patriots with 21 points. Justin Dirksen followed with seven points for Jay County, which has won five straight after an 0-2 start.
Nick Busse and Marco Vasquez each had six points for the Starfires.


Fort splits
Fort Recovery’s freshman basketball teams walked away with a road split Monday.
The Tribe boys defeated the host Parkway Panthers 35-23 while the girls fell 50-31 to the Cavaliers in Coldwater.
Cole Hull racked up 20 points for the FRHS boys as they improved to 3-1. Cole Wendel added five points.
The Indian girls fell to 0-4 with Cassidy Rammel and Kara Jutte each scoring 10 points.

Patriots fall
PONETO — Jay County’s “C” girls basketball team struggled in the first half and couldn’t recover in a 26-14 loss to the host Southern Wells Raiders.
Kai-Li Baughman scored six points to lead the Patriots, who trailed by 11 at the intermission. Mikayla Gross added five points.[[In-content Ad]]
