Stars pull even vs. Union City (11/19/07)

BERNE - Three Starfires scored in double figures Saturday as the South Adams High School evened its record again with a 62-53 victory over the visiting Union City Indians.

SAHS (2-2) roared out to the lead, holding the Indians without a field goal in the opening quarter. It pushed a 14-1 lead after eight minutes to 21-1, and was still up by 18 at the half en route to the victory.

Anne Lehman shot 7-of-10 from the field to lead the Starfires with 15 points. Andrea Moser hit 5-of-10 field goals and 4-of-5 free throws for 14 points, Ashton Morgan hit 8-of-10 foul shots as she scored 13 points.

Morgan led a 46-31 Starfire domination of the glass with 12 rebounds, while also dishing out four assists. Jordan Lehman had nine boards and four assists.

South Adams also lost 65-31 Friday at Eastbrook. Moser, Jordan Lehman and Jana Beitler each scored six points in the defeat.

Fort drops opener

FORT RECOVERY - The offense disappeared in the second quarter as Fort Recovery High School dropped its season opener 47-38 to the St. Marys Roughriders.

The host Indians led 18-15 after the opening period, but managed just two second-quarter points as St. Marys pulled ahead. They proceeded to shoot just 30 percent in the second half while missing five of their nine free throw attempts.

Lea Mackenbach hit 6-of-11 from the field and 4-of-4 from the foul line to lead the Roughriders to victory with 18 points. She also grabbed five rebounds.

Emily Shellabarger added 12 points, nine rebounds and three assists.

Nicole Pottkotter and Joanna Snyder each finished with 10 points and three assists for Fort Recovery. Anne Koesters had eight points and five rebounds.

The Indians won the junior varsity contest 40-24, getting 11 points from Olivia Thien and 10 points and six rebounds by Kendra Brunswick.[[In-content Ad]]
