Stars swimmers get first victory (11/18/05)

BERNE — After falling four points short in their opening meet of the season, the South Adams Starfire girls swim team bounced back to crush the Fort Wayne South Side Archers 121-49 Thursday night.
South Adams got individual wins from five different swimmers, with a senior, junior and freshman each leading sweeps.
Senior Margaret Beymer powered the Starfires in the 100-yard freestyle, finishing nearly nine seconds ahead of the fastest Archer in 1-minute, 2.36 seconds. Talitha Maven was second, two seconds behind Beymer, and Megan Myers took third.
Channing Yoder, a junior, was 10 seconds faster than the top South Side swimmer in the 100 breaststroke in 1:22.57. Shannon Muselman placed second, and Lacy Rhoades was third.
Myers, a freshman, added a victory of her own in the 50 freestyle with a time of 28.62. Muselman was second again, and Courtney Hewitt finished third.
Haleigh Lehman added a victory by finishing in 1:11.68 in the 100 butterfly, and Jessica Sharp won the 500 freestyle in 6:07.27.
Local grad goes 20-0
NILES, Mich. — The Niles High School freshman girls basketball team finished undefeated this year, led by a local graduate.
Linda (Cash) Dyszkiewicz, a 1997 Jay County graduate and former Patriot basketball player, coached the Niles team to a 20-0 record this season. The Vikings completed their unbeaten year with a 52-13 win over Dowagiac.[[In-content Ad]]
