Jay softball falls again

Again the Jay County softball team had a chance to end its losing streak, and again it lost in the opposition’s final at bat. The Patriots allowed two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning Friday to lose their 12th game in a row 3-2 to the Wapahani Raiders.

Jay County (5-20) trailed 1-0 after two innings, but scored once in the fifth and once in the top of the seventh to pull ahead. However, the pair of seventh-inning runs by Wapahani (7-9) sent the Patriots to defeat.

Ashleigh Myers took the loss, allowing three runs — two earned — on eight hits. She walked three and struck out one.

Ashley Cook had a pair of hits and scored both of the Jay County runs. Myers and Renae Laux each had a single and an RBI, and Felisha Parr added the other Patriot hit.

Jay County has the weekend off before hosting Monroe Central Tuesday at 4:30 p.m.
