Taking Note
The Jay County Historical Museum will be celebrating Christmas at the Museum on Saturday and Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m.
Luetta Bowen, a retired first grade teacher will be telling Christmas stories from 2 to 4 p.m. on Sunday. Her collection of Christmas mice will also be on display.
The museum is located at 903 E. Main St. in Portland.
STUDENTS OF THE MONTH
West Jay Middle School announced its students of the month for November.
In sixth grade was Branda Geesaman, daughter of Harley and Carolyn Geesaman.
Seventh grader, Jack Roush, son of Sean and Stacey Roush, was chosen.
In eighth grade was Shayla Shirk, daughter of Daphne Shirk.
JUDGING CONTEST
The Jay County 4-H team placed first in the annual crops/forestry/entomology judging held Nov. 22 in Madison County.
Team members were Julie Alig, daughter of Paul and Margie Alig; Erin Lawrence, daughter of Charles and Sheryl Lawrence; Jessica Muhlenkamp, daughter of Allen and Theresa Muhlenkamp; and Valerey Muhlenkamp, daughter of Richard and Bonnie Muhlenkamp.
The team was coached by Bob Lyons and Matt Swartz.
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
The Ball State University Adult Fitness/Cardiac Rehabiliation Program is conducting a research study and individuals with type II diabetes and high cholesterol and/or high triglycerides are needed.
Volunteers will participate in the 16 week program of exercise and medication.

BOOK SIGNINGS
Senator Richard Lugar will hold holiday book signings for the new edition of his book “Letters to the Next President.”
The first signing will be Friday from 6:15 to 7:15 p.m. at the Barnes and Noble store on 82nd Street in Indianapolis.
The second signing will be Sunday, Dec. 12, at Borders in Greenwood from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m.
He will be at Barnes and Noble in Avon on Monday, Dec. 13, from 4 to 5 p.m. On Tuesday, Dec. 14, he will be at Barnes and Noble on West Jefferson Boulevard in Fort Wayne from 4 to 5 p.m.
His final stop will be at the Carmel Barnes and Noble store on Meridian Street on Wednesday, Dec. 15, from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m.
The book was originally published in 1988, but the new edition includes a letter to the candidates of the 2004 presidential race and counsel for the winner.
