Story time held at library (7/6/05)
Taking Note

A story time for infants through children entering the third grade will be held on Thursday at 11 a.m. at the Jay County Public Library. The theme will be “quilts” and children must be accompanied by an adult.
There will be another story time on Thursday, July 16, at 11 a.m. with the theme “pirates.”
A murder/mystery for teens in sixth through 12th grade will be Tuesday, July 14, at 7 p.m. at the library. Registration is required. To register, call (260) 726-7890.
Red Cross class
The American Red Cross will have an emergency response class Monday, July 11, through Friday, July 15, and again Monday, July 18, through Friday, July 22.
The classes will be from 6 to 10 p.m. at the Portland Fire Department, 1616 N. Franklin St.
The classes will teach first aid injuries and sudden illness, automated external defibrillation (AED), prevent disease transmission-bloodborne pathogens, assessing vital signs and blood pressure measurement, using basic and supplemental oxygen breathing devices, spinal injury management, muscle, bone and joint injuries, special considerations for seniors and children, critical incident stress debriefing, healthy lifestyle tips and emergency childbirth.
The cost of the class is $100. To register, call (260) 726-9530 or 1-800-480-4403.
Singers in Berne
The Edelweiss Singers will perform at the South Adams Senior Center on Thursday at 7 p.m. The center is located at 825 S. Hendricks St. in Berne.
The concert is free and open to the public.
Sorority convention
Members of Alpha Omicron chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma Sorority recently attended the 2005 Alpha Epsilon State Convention at the Holiday Inn North in Indianapolis.
Attending were Janet Young, Ann Marie Kesler and Jean Esslinger, all of Dunkirk; Rita Replogle, Delores Halley, Rowena Bake, Nancy Blumfield and Mary Hinshaw, all of Winchester; Roberta Bennett and Ann Meiring, both of Union City; Peggy Moore and Marcie Nicholson, both of Lynn; Lorna Van Meter, Eaton.
The ladies toured the city, attended educational programs and workshops and attended the installation of new state officers.
Ann Marie Kesler was installed as the Indiana state president of Delta Kappa Gamma International and took office on July 1.
Graduated
LeeAnn E. Sautbine recently graduated from Ohio State University with a bachelor’s degree in human ecology, majoring in textiles and clothing and minoring in business.
She is the daughter of Gary and Barb Sautbine, Fort Recovery, and lives in Columbis, Ohio.
Summer concerts
The Star Press Summer Concert Series began June 25 at Minnetrista Cultural Center in Muncie.
All concerts are free and open to the public.
