West Jay Middle School recently announced its Students of the Month for September. For sixth grade is Chance Fuller, son of Lonnie and Melinda Fuller. For seventh grade is Taylor Burris, daughter of Jeff and Elizabeth Burris. For eighth grade is Brittany Crawmer, daughter of Donald and Sherry Crawmer.
Auditions to be held
The Performance Company will hold auditions for A Christmas Carol on Monday, Oct. 10, and Tuesday, Oct. 11, at 6:30 p.m. at Arts Place. Auditions will be cold readings and scenes and some may be asked to sing. However; the play is not a musical and lack of musical ability should not deter anyone from auditioning. Book donations
The Jay County Public Library is now accepting book donations for small public libraries affected by Hurricane Katrina. Adult, juvenile and children’s fiction and non-fiction materials are all that’s being accepted. Books must be in good condition and no older than three years. Please bring your donations to the library by Oct. 21. For more information, call the library at (260) 726-7890.
Story time
A story time will be held Monday, Oct. 10, at 10 a.m. and Tuesday, Oct. 11, at 1 p.m. at Jay County Public Library. Children from infants on up are invited to attend and must be accompanied by an adult. Books will be read aloud and a craft or special event will follow. Please call the library at (260) 726-7890 if you plan to bring a large group.
Organ concert
Dr. Stephen Jacoby, Professor of Music at Bluffton University in Bluffton, Ohio, will present an organ concert at the First Mennonite Church in Berne on Sunday, Oct. 9, at 4:30 p.m.
The public is invited to enjoy this free concert of classical and jazz music.
Academic excellence
Two area students were recently honored for academic excellence at the annual Indiana University Purdue University Honors Convocation in Fort Wayne.
Tracy Cline made the dean’s list and the semester honors list during the 2004-05 academic year. Jason Knapke made the semester honors list for the 2004-05 academic year.
