Students of the month for September have been named at West Jay Middle School.
In sixth grade was Rebecca Wallace, daughter of David and Faith Wallace.
For seventh grade was Caz Lawhorn, the daughter of April Dye.
In eighth grade was Kimberly Nibarger, the daughter of Steve and Darlene Nibarger.
Lifeskill winners
Bloomfield Elementary staff recently chose students who displayed the lifeskill "initiative" during September.
Lifeskill winners were Rachel Braun, Jordan Brumbaugh, Caleb Fifer, Camille Gambill, Clara D.C. Graber, Troy Homan, Brandon Hough, Hunter Malott, Laiten Malott, Ashley Mark, Rachel Miller, Emily Muhlenkamp, Brett Rowles, Evan VanCise and Megan Wellman.
To attend convention
Members of the Fort Recovery FFA Chapter will be attending the 79th National FFA Convention in Indianapolis from Oct. 23 through Oct. 28.
Dale Brunswick, Jake Knapke and Jackie Lennartz will be attending and will receive the American FFA Degree. To earn the degree, members must have worked more than 2,250 hours and earned or invested $7,500 or more in a supervised Agricultural Exerience Program. Dale is the son of Cy and Donna Brunswick, Jake is the son of Don and Carol Knapke and Jackie is the daughter of Tom and Cathy Lennartz.
The group will also tour the Chicago Board of Trade, Chicago Field Museum, Case-New Holland Tractor Manufacturing Factory, Fair Oaks Dairy Farm and Dow Agrosciences.
Anyone wishing to support the trip to the National FFA Convention, may call the Agricultural Education Department at (419) 375-4111 or make checks payable to Fort Recovery FFA and send to 400 E. Butler Street.
Support group
An alzheimer's caregiver support group will begin Tuesday, Oct. 17, at Jay County Hospital in conference room A. It will begin at 6 p.m. and be held the third Tuesday of each month.
The group is to help those who care for people with Alzheimer's disease. For more information, call Larry Grider at (260) 726-1865 or (800) 272-3900.
Antique appraisal
The Second Annual Road Show Antique Appraisal will be held Sunday, Oct. 15, from 2 to 4 p.m. at the 4-H Fair Grounds Dining Hall in Monroe.
Larry Sydow, a certified appraiser and member of the Certified Appraisers Guild of America, will be the appraiser. His antique catalog can be seen on line at www.sydowantiques.com.
There is a $3 admission charge and items may be appraised for a charge. The show is sponsored by the Adams County Extension Homemakers.
Birthday celebration
The 149th birthday celebration of Elwood Haynes will be held Sunday, Oct. 15, in Kokomo. The event will take place at the Elwood Haynes Museum in Highland Park, 1915 South Webster St., from 1 until 5 p.m.
Jim Laird will be the guest speaker. There will be museum tours, a historical slide show, photographic exhibits, an outdoor car show and refreshments. For more information, call the museum at (765) 456-7500 or visit www.CityofKokomo.org.
