West Jay Middle School Students of the Month were announced for October.
In sixth grade was Laura Morrison, the daughter of Jeff and Patricia Morrison.
In seventh grade was Devin Conatser, son of Margarito and Tyanne Vazquez and Michael and Angel Conatser.
In eighth grade was Samantha Rhodehamel, the daughter of Kevin and Linda Rhodehamel.
Lifeskill winners
Bloomfield Elementary staff members recently chose students who demonstrated the lifeskill "flexibility" during the month of October.
Lifeskill winners were Cadence Bridges, Ashlee Brumbaugh, Derek Bryan, Gavin Bullock, Eric Chrisman, Adam Dirksen, Caleb Gambill, Brett Laux, Josh Lykins, Betsy Muhlenkamp, Kody Muhlenkamp, Faith Parr and Michelle Wellman.
Benefit auction
A benefit auction will be held Friday, Nov. 17, at Arts Place in Portland as part of the Winterfest Celebration.
Doors open at 5 p.m. and the auction begins at 6 p.m. and will benefit programs at Arts Place.
The event is free and open to the public.
Author to speak
Author Patrick J. O'Brian, Muncie, will be the guest speaker at the Friends of the Library annual meeting to be held Tuesday, Nov. 21, at 6:30 p.m. at Jay County Public Library. The meeting is open to the public.
O'Brian is a native New Yorker. After graduating from Ball State University in 1995, he has worked as a teacher and firefighter and has been writing fiction since high school.
His first book, "The Fallen," was published in 2002 and his latest work is the "West Baden Springs Murders" trilogy.
Reading group
The book reading group at Jay County Public Library is reading "Wicked, The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West" by Gregory Maguire during November.
The group meets the third Monday of each month at 7 p.m. To register, call the library at (260) 726-7890.[[In-content Ad]]
