WINS AWARD

Judi Merkel, rural Geneva resident and a longtime educator in Purdue University’s Cooperative Extension Service, has been awarded the Frederick L. Hovde Award for Excellance in Educational Service to Rural People in Indiana.

She is a former school teacher and has been with the extension office in Wells County for the past 11 years.

Merkel received the award because of her involvement in campaigns against breast cancer, food borne illnesses, and osteoporosis; also promoting regular medical checkups, advising young mothers about parenthood and dealing with the aging process.

The award is sponsored by Farm Bureau of Indiana and is named for the man who was Purdue’s president from 1946-71.[[In-content Ad]]
