Support group celebrates anniversary (05/24/07)
Taking note
The Jay County Cancer Support Group is completing its 10th year serving as a support group for cancer survivors and families of cancer patients.
Bev Inman, who along with Deb Arnold, have been facilitators for the group since it began in May, 1997, said she had learned of such support groups in other parts of the country. Her father was suffering from cancer at the time and felt local residents could also benefit from such support.
Today 10 to 20 patients or family members attend the meeting held the fourth Tuesday of the month at 5 p.m. at the Jay County Hospital, which sponsors the program. Each meeting provides a speaker as well as a time for those in attendance to share thoughts.
"We share with the survivors, patients, and family members," Inman said this week.
Those who have died from the disease as well as the survivors will be honored during the Jay County Cancer Walk, set for June 2, at the Jay County High School.

Leslie Anne Saxman from Portland received her bachelor of arts degree with a major in English (Literature) from DePauw University.
