Letters to the Editor

To the editor:

Your guest opinion in Friday's paper was absolutely right. Jay County needs to do this Gay Teach program. Gays and lesbians are kicked out of churches, jobs, some insurance and more.

Most kids and adults that come out of "the closet" are a lot luckier now; their families usually accept them to a degree or fully.

Then there are the families that kick them completely out of the family.

I know in the early 1990s at Jay County High School the bullying got very bad. I know several young people that had to put up with it.

We should be learning how to talk to each other and also to listen.

I'll be first in line to sign up for the Gay Teach. Let's do it Jay County.

Gospel

To the editor:

Oh hear the word of the Lord, "when I say unto the wicked man, though shalt surely die; if thou dost not speak to warn the wicked from his way that wicked man shall die in his iniquity; but his blood will I require at thine hand.

"Nevertheless, if thou warn the wicked of his way to turn from it; if he do not turn from his way, he shall die in his iniquity; but thou hast delivered thy soul." - Ezekiel 33:8,9.

Thus saith the Lord: "There shall be no whore of the daughters of Israel, nor a sodomite of the sons of Israel. Thou shalt not bring the hire of a whore or the price of a dog into the house of the Lord thy God for any vow; for even both these are abominations into the Lord thy God." - Deut. 23:17,18.

Thus saith the Lord: "If a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination. They shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them." - Deut 20:13.

Thus saith the Lord: "Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind, it is abomination." - Deut 18:22. "For all these abominations have the men of the land done, which were before you, and the land is defiled." - Deut. 18:27.

Thus saith the Lord: "Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness (sexual perversions) through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonor their own bodies between themselves ... for this cause God gave them up unto vile affections; for even their women did change the nature use into that which is against nature; and likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which unseemly (indecent) ... And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind (a castaway) to do those things which are not convenient (proper)." - Romans 1:24-28.

"Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived; neither fornication, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind, nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God." - I Corinthians 6:9,10.

"But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters and all liars shall have their part in the lake of fire which burneth with fire and brimstone, which is the second death." - Revelation 21:8.

"If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book; if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city and from the things which are written in this book." - Revelation 22:18,19.

"For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus." - Romans 3:23,24.

"Seek the Lord while he may be found, call upon him while he is near; let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts; and let him return unto the Lord, and He will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for He will abundantly pardon." Isaiah 55:5,6.

If you are struggling with vile affections, remember there are many ministers that still believe and preach the old-fashioned message of salvation.

Many churches have taken their altars out and many do not sing about the blood of our Savior, Jesus Christ.

But there is a remnant left in Jay County that refuses to let the fire go out. Revival is on the way.

Sad day

To the editor:

It's a sad day in Jay County when we have to have gay performers in our civic center to make money.

I'm talking about the Ray Boltz performance and his gay comic actor on Saturday night (Oct. 24).

When a man leaves a wife and family to become a gay there is something very wrong in his judgment.

This is even more than a religious or moral issue. It's against the laws of nature. Even animals know better than to mate with the same sex.

Some people try to explain that God approves of this. Then read any Bible and it will tell you these actions will lead to eternal damnation.

What kind of example does this show our children by supporting a gay performance in our local art center?

Anyone attending this performance shows they approve of this kind of lifestyle.

Stronger

To the editor:

How do we make Jay County stronger and more successful? Support local diversity. Business people, artists and educators want diverse and interesting communities. Secure and happy people welcome differing perspectives and strong communities thrive when new voices are given room for expression.

Jay County Parents and Friends of Lesbians and Gays (PFLAG) is proud to support a truly groundbreaking Jay County Event - local singer, songwriter and Dove award winner Ray Boltz and famously "ex-gay" comedian, performer and educator Peterson Toscano, author of "Now I Know My Gay, B, C's," Saturday at 7 p.m. at Arts Place.

A note to the skeptic: this performance is entertainment. It's fun. It won't hurt you. It's not even scary. No, it's not a nefarious plan to lure in unsuspecting people and recruit them into being gay. It's about love and tolerance, about us being rich and prosperous in the best sense. Yes, it can be scary to open your heart and mind. But it's worth the risk. Come and see for yourself. Take the hand of your local curmudgeon, reassure the paranoid person that surely not all gay people are interested in affairs with them; ask the guy or gal who always seems to be going on about lesbian and gay people, "um, why are you so gay-obsessed?"; and reassure the nervous that is okay to go public with the radical thought that we are open-minded grown-ups and interested in hearing diverse perspectives, then drag 'em all down to see the show. The more the merrier. And the more interesting.

This is not an issue of whether you personally approve of or are called upon to stand in judgment of other people. This is about whether Jay County is ready to thrive together instead of suffering divided. Einstein said, "The definition of insanity is doing the same thing and expecting different results." Now is the time to do something different.

Jay County PFLAG supports Prism/GSA because we all need a safe and kind place to educate ourselves and talk about issues. The children are leading the way toward tolerance and healing. We need you to help them. Jay County PFLAG is a chapter of a national education and advocacy group supporting GLBTQ people and their families. Visit us at www.jaycountyPFLAG.com and find links to educational materials that help keep families talking and together.
