Sutter, May lead third-place effort

VERSAILLES, Ohio — Elle Sutter and Abby May came up big for the Indians again.
Sutter and May, who both finished in the top 10 at the Sept. 15 Eaton Invitational, each made the top five Saturday to lead the Fort Recovery High School girls cross country team to a third-place finish out of 11 teams at the Tour de Sewer hosted by Versailles. The Tribe scored 87 points to trail Tippecanoe (36) and Versailles (65).
The FRHS boys scored 214 points to finish seventh out of 12 teams. Division III No. 8 St. Henry won with 38.
Sutter was one of only three runners to break the 21-minute mark in the girls race as she placed third in 20 minutes, 58.3 seconds. May posted a time of 21:29 for fifth place.
Caitlyn Huelskamp was 13th in 21:58 ahead of Jessica Vogel (34th – 23:25) and Janel Heitkamp (44th – 23:55).
Derek Sutter paced the boys team with a 13th-place finish in 18:10. Joey Gonzalez was 38th in 19:26 followed by Nathan Fullenkamp (49th – 19:40), Isaac Siegrist (82nd – 20:45) and Mitchell Homan (94th – 21:13).

Boys golfers eighth
MINSTER, Ohio — Fort Recovery finished eighth out of 10 teams at Saturday’s Midwest Athletic Conference Tournament at Arrowhead Golf Course.
The Indians scored a 391 to finish three strokes ahead of ninth-place Marion Local and 25 behind seventh-place New Knoxville. Minster won with 323.
Elijah Kahlig turned in the only birdie of the day for Fort Recovery on the par-4 opening hole. The also had four pars and seven bogeys as he led the Indians with a 91.

Parkway’s Jordan Bollenbacher won the individual MAC title with a 77.
Josh Pohl had four pars as he followed Kahlig for Fort Recovery with a 98. Chase Bruns shot 100, and Stewy Alig finished with a 102.

MS spikers win
UNION CITY, Ohio — The Fort Recovery Middle School volleyball teams swept four matches Saturday with the eighth graders topping West Jay 25-6, 25-18 and Mississinawa Valley 25-13, 25-17. The seventh grade team beat Mississinawa Valley 25-12, 25-12 and rallied past West Jay 18-25, 25-14, 25-16.
Devin Post had 13 service points, four kills, four assists and a block for the eighth grade team (4-9) against West Jay. Audra Metzger finished with six assists and two digs in the win over Mississinawa Valley.
Madi Grover had 10 service points and nine assists to power the seventh grade Indians (9-4) to the comeback win over West Jay. Grace Thien led the victory over Mississinawa Valley with nine service points and three kills.
Heitkamp leads
VERSAILLES, Ohio — Fort Recovery’s middle school girls cross country team placed fourth out of nine squads with 119 points at Saturday’s Tour de Sewer hosted by Versailles. The boys were last with 232 points.
Angela Heitkamp led a pair of Indian girls in the top 10 as she finished in 13 minutes, 34 seconds for sixth place. Grace Gehle was 10th in 13:53.
Paige Hemmert finished 32nd in 14:46 followed by Sydney Alig (44th – 15:31) and Heather Klenke (60th – 16:20).
Harrison Kaup placed 39th with a time of 13:23 to lead the FRMS boys. Jared Heitkamp was 57th in 14:05 ahead of Ty Francis (66th – 14:05), Rodney Hemmert (81st – 15:35) and Eddie Hemmert (92nd – 16:01).[[In-content Ad]]
