Taing homer powers SAHS

Local roundup

BERNE — One big hit in the first inning was enough for the Starfires.
Lilly Taing’s home run provided all the offense the South Adams High School softball team needed Thursday as it knocked off the visiting Southern Wells Raiders 4-1.
Taing blasted a three-run homer in the first inning to erase a 1-0 deficit and put the Starfires (8-9) ahead for good. They added their only other run in the sixth inning.
Alyssa Bluhm shut down the Raiders, striking out six batters as she went the distance. She gave up the one run on just three hits and a walk.
Alaina Johnston followed Taing by going 2-for-3 with a run. Mallorie Vorhee had a single and an RBI, and Loren Sparks added a hit and a run.

Bulldogs blast FR
CELINA, Ohio — Fort Recovery’s softball team could not keep the Celina Bulldogs in check Thursday as it fell 19-1 in five innings.
The Indians (4-17), who open tournament play Saturday against Minster, trailed just 2-1 before giving up nine runs in the bottom of the third inning.
Celina scored eight more runs in the fourth.
Cassidy Rammel took the loss, giving up eight runs on 10 hits and five walks in three innings. Ashley Homan and Beca Tobe each pitched in relief.
Kendra Stammen scored the only run for FRHS, and Tobe had an RBI.
Taylor Guggenbiller, Haley Knapke and Ashley Homan finished with one hit apiece.

FORT WAYNE — The South Adams baseball team couldn’t scratch together enough runs Thursday as it fell 3-2 to the host Southern Wells Raiders at Parkview Field.
The Starfires scored once in the first inning to take the lead at the home of the Fort Wayne TinCaps, but then gave up three runs in the third. They scored their only other run in the sixth inning as they fell to their Allen County Athletic Conference rival.
Nick Batt took the loss, allowing three runs — two earned — on four hits and five walks. He struck out 10 batters.
Collin Affolder finished with a hit and an RBI, and Corey Seffernick went 1-for-2 with a run. Dustin Wanner also scored for SAHS.[[In-content Ad]]
