Tankers roll on senior night

Jay County High School’s boys and girls swim teams sent the seniors off with a commanding victory over the visiting Marion Giants.
The Patriot boys won 221-30 Thursday, and the girls beat the Giants 226-76 as both teams only lost one event each.
James Keen and Josh Lykins were both dual-event winners for the Patriot boys. Keen earned the top spot in the 200-yard individual medley and the 500 freestyle. Lykins, who signed a national letter of intent Saturday to swim next season at Lindsey Wilson College, placed first in the 50 freestyle and 100 backstroke.
Kaleb Baldwin (200 freestyle), Cody White (100 butterfly) and Sok Vormohr (100 freestyle) all won single events.
On the girls’ side, Sophie Bader and Anne Vormohr both won their individual events. Bader placed first in the 50 and 500 freestyle, and Vormohr won the 100 butterfly and 200 freestyle.
Sydney Mathias (100 freestyle), Katy Smeltzer (200 individual medley) and Jamie Valentine (100 breaststroke) also finished first.
Heather Stinson and Ryan Harris won their respective diving events uncontested.

Indians thump Jay
The Jay County girls basketball team was no match for Anderson, falling to the Indians 77-25 Thursday.
Jay County shot just 19 percent (9-of-48) from the field and turned the ball over 29 times while the Indians shot an even 50 percent.
Anderson’s Da’Sha Boyd scored 13 of her game-high 18 points in the first quarter, as the Indians raced out to a 21-3 lead after eight minutes. Anderson (14-3) limited the Patriots (6-10) to just six points in both the second and third quarters while scoring more than 16 points in each frame.
Taylor Homan led the Patriots with eight points. Bre McIntire scored six, Katie Aker tallied five points and Abby Wendel had four.

Eagles still perfect
DUNKIRK — Shelby Caldwell scored 16 points and grabbed 12 rebounds Thursday as the West Jay Middle School seventh grade girls basketball team beat Muncie Northside 30-19.

The West Jay eighth graders fell to Northside, 34-20.
Rhegan Shimp scored seven points and grabbed seven rebounds for the seventh grade Eagles, who improve to 6-0 on the season. Kendall Garringer netted three points, and Kensey Litton also added five steals and four rebounds.
Hanna Ault led the West Jay eighth graders with 10 points, seven rebounds and three steals. Kimber Harris scored eight points and grabbed three rebounds.
The eighth grade Eagles fell to 3-3 on the season.

Chiefs, Eagles split
The West Jay and East Jay sixth grade girls basketball teams split games Thursday.
West Jay won the A team game 13-9 over the Chiefs. EJMS took the B team game 12-6.
Macy Weitzel led the Chiefs’ B team with six points. Alyssa Leonhard, Logan Poore and Breanna Suarez each added two points.
For the East Jay A team, Mikele Sman, Anhely Montes, Shadie Canterbury and Kristy Robbins all scored two points, and Taylor May added one.
West Jay stats were not available.

EJMS grapplers win
GASTON — Seven wrestlers earned victories Thursday as East Jay beat Wes-Del 39-21.
Davis Anderson (85), Henry Hemmelgarn (115), Mitchel Frasher (135), Daniel Ostrowski (155) and Bailey Ludy (HWT) all earned victories by pin for the Chiefs, who improve to 3-1 on the season.
Mason Winner (105) won by technical fall 16-0, and Kaimen Sanders won by a 6-3 decision in the 110-pound weight division.
In the consolation matches, Ethan Solis, Dawson Frasher, Dylan Racster and Chandler Chapman all won by pin. Gavin Hare earned a 12-1 decision and Damian Resler had a victory.[[In-content Ad]]
