Taylor finishes 17th at regional (02/11/2009)

FISHERS - Megan Taylor's capped her diving season by competing Tuesday at the regional meet.
The Jay County High School sophomore placed 17th at the tournament at Fishers. The top eight divers in the field of 20 advanced to the state finals.
Taylor scored 186.65 points in her first five dives to finish one place ahead of Norwell's Leah Huggins (178.9). Huggins was third Saturday at the Jay County sectional, just ahead of Taylor.
The other two divers from the JCHS sectional, Kara Fiechter of Bluffton and Taylor Kennedy of Bellmont placed 14th and 16th respectively.
Megan Potee of Noblesville took the regional title with 434.15 points, three more than runner-up Gail Susdorf of the host Tigers. Potee earned a state medal last season with an eighth-place finish.
Other state qualifiers were Noblesville's Katie Bittner (428.65), Hamilton Southeastern's Christina Beyerl (395), Homestead's Mariah Kiefer (382.6), Westfield's Rebecca Schmidt (364), Kokomo's Brittany Gauger (360.85) and Northrop's Jamie Curtis (351.6).
Taylor finished undefeated in home dual meets this year and was the Olympic Athletic Conference runner-up.
