Teen to compete in pageant (5/6/04)

Addison Rose Pijnappels, 15, of Portland, has been chosen as a state finalist in the National American Miss Indiana Pageant to be held Sunday, July 18, and Monday, July 19, at the Adam’s Mark Airport Hotel in Indianapolis.

The pageant is for girls ages 13 to 15 and the winner will receive a $1,000 cash award, the official crown and banner, a bouquet of roses and transportation to compete in the national pageant at Disneyland in California.

She is looking for businesses to sponsor her. She is the daughter of Robin Pijnappels, Portland, and can be reached at (260) 726-7880.

SCHOLAR NAMED

Jason G. Wenning has accepted membership in The National Society of Collegiate Scholars at Florida State University and will be honored during a campus cememony this fall.

He is the son of Roger and Cheryl Wenning of Fort Recovery.

LOCAL PERFORMER

Julie Pickett, a senior at Earlham College in Richmond, performed at the Earlham Spring Concert on April 24, in Goddard Auditorium.

She is a member of the concert choir, orchestra and Madrigal Singers and is the daughter of Beth and James Pickett, Portland.

SCHOLARSHIPS

Geneva Proud awarded scholarships to Lauren Tooley and Kyle Armstrong, both South Adams seniors.

Lauren is the daughter of Charlie and Katie Tooley and will attending Ball State University to major in biological sciences and then plans to attend Indiana University School of Medicine.

She has participated in cross-country, track, orchestra and cheerleading. She is also a member of National Honor Society and has been a class officer for four years. She has earned honors from Elks Teen of the Month, National Honor Roll, Who’s Who Among American Students and was a Heismann nominee.

Kyle is the son of Hal and Kathy Armstrong and plans to attend Huntington College, majoring in business administration and minoring in telecommunications.

He has been active in Campus Life, National Honor Society, golf, bowling and basketball. He has also helped with the free Thanksgiving dinner for eight years, worked for Geneva Proud, Habitat for Humanity, volunteered for town clean-up day, helped establish the Geneva Veteran’s Memorial and is an active member of the First United Methodist Church in Geneva.

The seniors will be awarded their scholarships at South Adams High School on Monday, May 17, and their parents will be honored at the Geneva Proud meeting on Tuesday, May 18.[[In-content Ad]]
