Teeter scores 30 for Starfires

BERNE - A second-quarter run keyed the South Adams High School boys basketball in a 68-59 victory Saturday over the visiting Daleville Broncos.

Nick Teeter racked up 30 points for the Starfires (1-1), who used an 11-2 second-quarter run to open their lead. Daleville (0-2) never pulled closer than four points the rest of the way.

Teeter nailed all 11 of his free-throw attempts, and also had eight rebounds and three assists.

Chase Ingle had 15 points, and Taylor Smith scored 11.

Jimmy Sandberg had 29 points and 18 rebounds to pace the Broncos.

In the junior varsity game, Scott Hoeppner and Mark Muselman each scored nine points for SAHS in a 40-39 loss.

Grapplers go 4-1

FORT WAYNE - Three wrestlers turned in perfect records Saturday to lead the South Adams wrestling team to a 4-1 record at the Homestead Super Dual.

South Adams defeated Heritage 51-18, Snider 57-13, Marion 46-27 and Churubusco 48-25. Its only loss came by a 40-24 loss to the host Spartans.

Jim West (HWT) and T.J. Burnfield (140) led the Starfires as they each went 5-0 with every victory coming by pin. Josh Ehr (145) also turned in a 5-0 record.

L.J. Moser (103) was 4-1, and Gabe Sprunger (130) went 3-1. John Striker (119), Todd Batt 9125) and Isaac Werst (152) each finished 3-2.

Girls fall by one

BLUFFTON - The Starfire girls basketball team slipped to 1-4 Friday with a 42-41 loss to the Bluffton Tigers.

Tori Smith led South Adams with 10 points against Bluffton (2-3), and Jaci Liechty added nine. Tori Kistler chipped in seven points.

Alyssa Armenta scored nine points in the junior varsity game for the Starfires, who lost 44-20.

Thomas places 4th

GENEVA - Ian Thomas led the local runners with a fourth-place finish in Saturday's Rainbow Lake 5K.

Thomas, 23, of Pennville, completed the race in 15 minutes, 53 seconds. Nicholas Johnson of Huntington was first in 15:18.

Lauren Johnson, also of Huntington, was the top female runner with a time of 17:37. Jill Roughia, a 2005 Jay County High School graduate, was ninth among female competitors in 22:30.[[In-content Ad]]
