Third-ranked Norwell overpowers Starfires (05/20/06)

SAHS roundup

BERNE — Three hits against Class 3A’s third-ranked team was all the Starfires could manage.

One of those hits was a Mike Farris home run, but it was not nearly enough as the South Adams baseball team lost 12-1 in five innings to the Class 3A No. 3 Norwell Knights Friday.

Norwell scored six times in the opening inning and never looked back. It added three runs in the third inning and three more in the fifth to finish the game early.

Farris hit his solo home run in the fourth inning. Thomas Masterson and Brent Habegger added one hit apiece.

Farris took the loss as nine of the 12 Knight runs were earned. He gave up nine hits and six walks while striking out six.

Snider downs SA softball

FORT WAYNE — The South Adams softball team also managed just three hits Friday as it was shut out 4-0 by the Fort Wayne Snider Panthers.

Snider scored all of its runs in the sixth inning as it handed Amber Melick the defeat. She gave up four runs on eight hits and struck out three batters.

Ashton Morgan had two of the three hits for the Starfires.

Kayla Coblentz also had a single in the defeat.[[In-content Ad]]
