Thomas places 24th

INDIANAPOLIS — Pennville’s Ian Thomas led the group of area runners who competed this month in the OneAmerica 500 Festival Mini Marathon.
Thomas, a 2005 graduate of Jay County High School who ran cross country and track at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology, was 24th overall in the race. His time of 1 hour, 9 minutes, 30 seconds placed him third in his division.
Jeff Bailey, Portland, finished 184th in the field of more than 30,000 competitors in 1:22:20. Charity Leist of Dunkirk was the top female runner from the area, finishing in 1:49.29.
Other Portland residents completing the mini-marathon were John McShane, Michele Miller, Lori Bantz, Tim Poole, Andy VanSkyock, Joshua Stultz, Irene Heare, Tommy Oswalt, Andrea Oswalt, A. Isabel Minnich, April Wallischeck, Jennifer VanSkyock and Sara Long.
Also competing in the race were Christopher Heshelman, Thomas Ferkinhoff, Seth Hunt, Misty Nickols, Heidi Croyle and Chanin France of Ridgeville; Doug Marshall and Tammy Minard of Dunkirk; Raymond Paxson and Megan Houser of Bryant; Lynn Dale of Pennville; Debbie Kummer of Redkey; Rob Kaiser of Fort Recovery; and McKenzie Hinshaw of Geneva.
Tequila Guntle of Geneva and Lori Estep of Portland competed in the 5K event.

Twigg paces Pak-A-Sak
Zack Twigg powered Pak-a-Sak to a 9-8 victory Thursday over Ponderosa in Portland Junior League Rookie baseball.
Twigg had an inside-the-park home run and racked up four RBIs. Sam Dunlavy added three hits and two runs.
Adrek Pogue paced Ponderosa with two triples, two runs and an RBI.

Tatman team wins
The team captained by Mark Tatman won the Jay Community Center Gordon Meeker Golf Tournament on May 21 at Portland Golf Club.
Brian Watson, Brad Burkett and Jerry Abbott teamed with Tatman for the victory. The team of Rich Carducci, Kevin Zwickl, Eric Richmond and Mike Biksey finished second.[[In-content Ad]]
