The Indiana Basketball Coaches Association honored three members of the Jay County High School basketball programs recently.
Juniors Lindsey Wellman and Pazia Speed earned honorable mention as part of the 2009 Girls All-State Underclass Team. Also, JCHS boys coach Craig Teagle was named as one of the 2009 Bob King Coaches of the Year.
Wellman led the Patriots, who finished the regular season 18-0, in points (14.9) and rebounds (6.2) per game. She hit 26 3-pointers while shooting 41.4 percent from long distance, and added 33 steals and 31 assists.
Speed was second on the team with 12.3 points per game, shooting 54 percent from the field and 81 percent from the foul line. She had a team-high 39 steals to go along with 4.9 rebounds per game and 54 assists.
Teagle, who was named Coach of the Year award winning in District II, led his Patriot squad to its eighth straight winning season and seventh in a row with 14 or more victories. He has 154 career victories at JCHS and 230 overall.
Former South Adams coach Jason Ridge, now at Northridge, earned the award for District I. His team went undefeated in the regular season this year.
Eight Indians awarded
Eight members of the Fort Recovery basketball teams were named to the All-Midwest Athletic Conference Academic Team.
Seniors Joanna Snyder, Anne Koesters, Rachel Tobe, Kinsey Wenning and Kelsey Wuebker of the girls team earned the award along with Nicole Pottkotter and Nicole Dilworth. Brady Kahlig picked up the award for the boys team.
All-Academic team members must carry a 3.5 grade point average.[[In-content Ad]]
