Three make polls (04/29/08)
INDIANAPOLISā- A trio of local teams again made an appearance in the state polls this week.
South Adams High School's softball team leads the group as the No. 6 ranked team in Class 2A. Both the Jay County and South Adams baseball teams finished out of the top 10, but are among the others in consideration in the Class 4A and 2A voting respectively.
The Starfire softball team is having its best season in years, having opened the 2008 campaign with seven consecutive wins. It lost the next three games, all in the Allen County Athletic Conference, but has since defeated New Haven and Monroe Central to improve to 9-3.
SAHS garnered 88 points in this week's poll, finishing eight behind No. 5 Jimtown and six ahead of seventh-ranked Eastern. No. 1 Scecina (11-0) got every first place vote for 150 points.
In the Class 2A baseball poll South Adams finished with eight points. It was 12th in the voting, three points behind Bishop Luers and three ahead of Centerville.
The Starfires are 6-4, having lost four straight.
Jay County's baseball team, which tied the school record for home runs in a season with its 27th Saturday, is 11-1 with the lone loss coming against Olympic Athletic Conference rival Anderson Highland. The Patriots earned four points in the Class 4A poll, tying them with Northridge, Northrop and DeKalb for 15th. Munster and Warsaw were tied for 13th with five points, and Fort Wayne Carroll was 19th with 2.
