DUNKIRK — The West Jay Community Center summer soccer league season finale was Wednesday, with the Thunder completing an undefeated season with a 3-2 victory over the Lightning.
Not surprisingly, Megan Stanton scored all three of her team’s goals to bring her league-high total to 25. She has scored 20 more than the next closest player (Connor Davis with five) and three more than the entire rest of the league combined.
Stanton scored one goal apiece in the second, third and fourth quarters as the Thunder finished at 5-0-2.
Jocelyne Huey and Lillian Rogers each scored once for the Lightning (1-3-3). The Twisters, who were not in action Wednesday, finished 1-4-1.
Ingle wins again
Ingle Realty kept its strangle-hold on the top spot in the 2005 Go-Kart Grand Prix Series Wednesday.
The team won the feature race of the second leg of the series at the Vintage Motor Bike Show at the Jay County Fairgrounds. It now has 42 points for an eight-point lead over both Cooper Farms/Buckeye Design and Engineering and Lennartz Conveyor Systems, Inc.
Ingle entered Wednesday’s event in first place in the three-race series thanks to being the top qualifier and feature winner at the Fort Recovery Jubilee in June. It made sure it would stay on top, edging Cooper/Buckeye by less than two seconds.
Only two other teams — Moser Engineering/Mud Dawgs and Lennartz — finished on the lead lap.
Ingle was second in qualifying behind J&M Manufacturing/Cy Schwieterman Drainage, which placed sixth in the feature. Lennartz was third in qualifying.
The series concludes Sunday, July 24 with the third race, which helps kick off the Jay County Fair.[[In-content Ad]]
