Sentenced for robbery
An Ohio man who was found guilty by a jury of robbery, a class B felony, recently was sentenced in Jay Circuit Court.
Shane Slagle, 27, Bellefontaine, was sentenced April Tuesday to 12 years in the Indiana Department of Correction, with 398 days credit for time served.
He was ordered to pay $160 in court costs. A jury found him guilty on March 20.
He was arrested Sept. 29 after he and Michael L. Adams, Bellefontaine, left the scene of a robbery at Budget Inn, Portland.
Adams went into the motel, pointed a gun at the clerk and demanded money. Slagle drove the getaway car.
Adams was sentenced in January to 10 years in prison with credit for time served since his arrest. He pleaded guilty to a charge of armed robbery, a class B felony.
Pleads to dealing
A Portland woman who was arrested after an inactive methamphetamine lab allegedly was found at her home has pleaded guilty to a class B felony charge.
Doddie A. Watson, 35, Portland, pleaded guilty to dealing in methamphetamine, a class B felony. She is set to be sentenced April 29 at 10 a.m.
Watson was arrested Dec. 7 by the Tri-County Drug Task Force after the alleged lab was found.
Sentenced for
recklessness
A Portland woman recently was sentenced in Jay Circuit Court after she pleaded guilty to beating a Portland man with a metal dog leash.
Jara L. Clairday, 25, was sentenced April 8 on a charge of criminal recklessness resulting in serious bodily injury, a class D felony.
She was sentenced to two years in the Jay County Jail, with 102 days credit for time served. She was fined $500 and ordered to pay $160 in court costs.
On Sept. 13, she hit Glenn Pfeifer several times on the face and head with the leash, causing severe facial injuries. She was arrested on a warrant on Sept. 14.
Sentenced for burglary
A local man has been sentenced to more than three years in prison for breaking into a building at Paradise Pointe RV Resort, rural Portland.
The guilty plea of Joshua McCowan, 21, Portland, was accepted on Tuesday. He pleaded guilty to burglary, a class C felony.
McCowan was sentenced to four years in the Indiana Department of Correction, with 147 days credit for time served.
He was fined $200 and ordered to pay $160 in court costs. He also was ordered to pay $664.85 in restitution to Paradise Pointe.
As part of a plea agreement, charges of possession of marijuana and criminal mischief were dismissed.
He was arrested May 28 after he was found passed out in his car at the scene of the crime.
Rejected
A rural Winchester man's guilty plea has been rejected by Jay Superior Court.
Anthony E. Pugh, 45, pleaded guilty to child solicitation, a class D felony. His plea was made on March 18 and rejected April 11.
His jury trial is set to begin June 11 at 9 a.m.
Pugh was arrested Jan. 4 by Jay County police. On Sept. 23, he allegedly wrote a letter to an 11-year-old girl, asking her to have sexual relations with him.
Pleads guilty
An Ohio man pleaded guilty Tuesday in Jay Superior Court.
Damien W. Kroft, 28, Rockford, pleaded guilty to driving a vehicle with an alcohol equivalent of .15 or more, a class D felony. He is set to be sentenced May 27 at 2:30 p.m.
He was arrested July 22 after he was pulled over by Indiana State Police at Ind. 67 and 450 East for speeding. He failed a portable breath test.
Pleads to nonsupport
A Portland man has pleaded guilty to owing $9,025 in child support.
Rodney L. Sutton, 41, Portland, pleaded guilty April 4 in to nonsupport of a dependent child, a class D felony. He is set to be sentenced in Jay Superior Court on June 3 at 11:30 a.m.
Pleads to maintaining
An Albany man recently was sentenced in Jay Superior Court on a charge of maintaining a common nuisance, a class D felony.
Seth A. Thompson, 26, pleaded guilty to maintaining a common nuisance, a class D felony. His guilty plea was accepted April 1 and he was sentenced to 18 months in the Jay County Jail, with 13 months suspended and two days credit for time served. The remainder of his sentence will be served on electronically monitored home detention.
He was fined $200 and ordered to pay $160 in court costs. Thompson also was placed on probation for one year.
As part of a plea agreement, charges of possession of cocaine and possession of marijuana were dismissed.
On July 22, he maintained a residence in Dunkirk in which cocaine was ingested.[[In-content Ad]]
