Canceled
A jury trial scheduled for September 3-4 in Jay Circuit Court has been canceled. Jurors summoned for the trial do not need to report for duty.
One injured
A Fort Recovery woman suffered minor injuries after colliding with a vehicle, whose driver then left the scene of the accident, in Noble Township Wednesday night.
Lori A. Petit, 32, 105 W. Center St., was driving eastbound on Ind. 26 near county road 800 East, when she spotted another vehicle spinning around in the roadway in her lane of travel. She attempted to swerve but was unable to avoid striking the other car.
The other vehicle, which was identified by police as a maroon 1997 Chevrolet Lumina, registered to Ana C. Garcia, 4827 Watkins Road, St. Henry, Ohio, was driven from the scene following the accident.
Petit suffered minor injuries, but was not transported to a hospital.
An estimated $2,500 to $5,000 of damage was caused to Petit's 1998 Chevrolet Lumina, which was towed from the scene. The accident occurred at 9:40 p.m.
Rummage ransacked
A rummage sale in Portland was ransacked sometime before Wednesday morning.
Anna Franks, 201 Floral Avenue, Portland, told Portland police that someone had stolen several items and knocked things off tables in her yard set up for a rummage sale. Her mailbox was also uprooted.
The theft and vandalism occurred sometime before 8:30 a.m. Wednesday.
Card missing
A Dunkirk woman reported that her Social Security card has been missing since July.
Vanessa Gaston, 4956 S. Broad St., told Jay County police she discovered in July that her Social Security card was missing from her wallet. She told police she believes the card was stolen and might know who took it.
She reported the theft on Wednesday afternoon.
Backing accident
A Jefferson Township woman backed into another vehicle while backing out a parking space at Village Pantry in Portland Wednesday afternoon.
Beverly A. Roysden, 3614 West 600 South, Portland, was backing out of a parking space at Village Pantry, 704 N. Meridian St., Portland, when her vehicle bumped into a car driven by Chris A. Blauvelt, 46, 13306 Houck Road, Monroeville, that was stopped in the parking lot.
Less than $1,000 of damage was caused to Roysden's 1998 Chevrolet S10 pickup and Blauvelt's 1986 Chevrolet Camaro in the 12:45 p.m. accident.[[In-content Ad]]
