Thomas Murphy

Thomas L. Murphy, 67, 204 E. Main St., Bryant, died Wednesday afternoon at the Jay County Hospital.

Born on March 21, 1936, to Ernest and Opal (Roberts) Murphy, he was married on July 2, 1954, to Sue Lybarger, who survives.

A farmer and tool and die maker for Sheller-Globe in Montpelier for 39 years, he was a member of the Tri-State Gas Engine and Tractor Association.

He attended Bryant Wesleyan Church.

Other survivors include one son, Mitchell Murphy, Bryant; two daughters, Mrs. Michael (Kathy) Murphy, Fort Wayne, and Mrs. John (Donna) Glassford, Bryant; one brother, Randy Murphy, Bryant; two sisters, Patricia Runkel, Andrews, and Barbara Bebout, Montpelier; 14 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Services are Saturday at 11 a.m. in the Baird-Freeman Funeral Home with Pastor Paul VanCise presiding.

Burial will follow in Gravel Hill Cemetery, west of Bryant.

Visitation is Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. in the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the Jay County Cancer Society or Bryant Wesleyan Church.

Willis Lehman

Willis Lehman, 94, Swiss Village, Berne, died there Wednesday morning. He was the stepfather of a Ridgeville resident.

Born in Adams County on Nov. 22, 1909, to Calvin and Lena (Von Gunten) Lehman, he married Wilma Biberstein on Sept. 1, 1941. She died in 2000.

A member of the Berne Church of the Nazarene, he worked for the Nickel-Plate Railroad, retired from McIntosh Co., Berne, and was also a farmer.

Surviving are two sons; a daughter; two stepdaughters, including Mrs. Lee (Charlene) Whitenack, Ridgeville; 26 grandchildren; 53 great-grandchildren; and 16 great-great-grandchildren.

Services are Friday at 10 a.m. at the Berne Church of the Nazarene with the Revs. Paul Tubbs and Wayne Steury officiating.

Burial will follow in M.R.E. Cemetery.

Visitation is Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. at Yager-Kirchhofer Funeral Home, Berne, and Friday one hour prior to services at the church.

Judith Landis

Judith W. Landis, 62, St. Petersburg, Fla., died Aug. 19 in St. Petersburg. She was the sister of Portland residents.

Born to Leon and Ruby (Alcorn) Thenis in Muncie on April 19, 1941, she worked in home health care.

Surviving are her mother, Ruby Reagan; one son; three daughters; four sisters, including Mary Graham-Meadows, Portland; two brothers, including John Reagan, Portland; and six grandchildren.

There are no local services. Arrangements were handled by Goodwin Memorial Chapel, Bluffton.

Trenten Craig

Former Geneva resident, Trenten Allen Craig, 14, Upland, died Monday at Methodist Hospital, Indianapolis.

Born in Decatur on July 25, 1989, to Thomas L. and Tonja M. (Coblentz) Craig, he had lived in Upland since 1997.

An eighth grade student at Eastbrook Middle School, he was a straight A student with a 4.0 grade point average.

He was a member of the National Honor Society; the eighth grade choir; and was a forward on the basketball team.

He formerly played football and baseball, tutored other students, and participated in school musicals and attended the Marion First Church of the Nazarene, where he was involved in youth activities.

Surviving are his parents; two brothers, Tom Craig, Kansas City, Mo., and Tim Craig, Upland; maternal grandmother, Lucinda Coblentz, Berne; paternal grandparents, Thomas A. and Dixie L. Craig, Upland; paternal great-grandfather, Kenneth C. Swan, Marion; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Services are Friday at 11 a.m. at the Marion First Church of the Nazarene, with the Rev. Michael Taylor presiding.

Burial will follow in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Berne.

Visitation is today from 4 to 8 p.m. at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service North Chapel, 1341 N. Baldwin Ave., Marion.
