The 20th annual Polar Bear Dip in Hamilton Lake in Hamilton, Ind., will now be the Jack D. Gibson Memorial Polar Bear Dip in honor of a Portland native who died earlier this year.
Jack Gibson was a 1952 graduate of Portland High School who worked at Portland Forge for 10 years then went on to a long career as a teacher, coach, and school administrator at Hamilton High School. He died Aug. 19.
The Polar Bear Dip is set for 2 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 31, at the lake’s public beach. Badges for both participants and observers will be available for a donation in support of a memorial scholarship fund.[[In-content Ad]]
