Identity theft
A Pennville woman reported a possible attempt at identity theft Wednesday.
Rachel Yates, 410 E. Max Drive, Lot 3, told Jay County Police that a caller claiming to be a collection agency called her wanting account information to make a payday loan. Yates said the company gave her a wrong Social Security number, which made her suspicious of a scam.
Car vandalized
A Portland man's car was vandalized when a woman jumped on it Wednesday night.
David Mock, 303 E. Main St., reported that a woman jumped on his car, scratching it and breaking a mirror. He reported the vandalism at 10:27 p.m.
Cigarettes stolen
Someone entered the house of a Portland man and stole cigarettes Tuesday night.
Kent Jenkins, 728 W. Arch St., told Portland police that someone entered his home and stole cigarettes between 11 p.m. and 11:30 p.m. He reported the theft at 5:12 p.m. Wednesday.
Door pried
A Portland's man door was vandalized when someone attempted to gain entry to his apartment.
Greg Gierhart, 600 S. Meridian St., Apt. 113, discovered that someone attempted to pry his door open. He reported the incident at 10:55 a.m. Wednesday.
Car clipped
An Ohio truck driver clipped a car with his trailer at a gas station north of Bryant Wednesday afternoon.
Billy G. Lauck, 60, 1137 N. Elizabeth St., Lima, Ohio, was pulling into the parking lot of Bearcreek Crossing gas station at the intersection of Ind. 18 and U.S. 27. The back wheels of his trailer struck a parked vehicle, registered to Rose E. Green, 966 Mill Pond Road, Berne.
An estimated $1,000 to $2,500 was caused to Green's 2006 Honda CRV and the 2007 Mack Vision, registered to Waste Management of Ohio, 1550 E. Fourth St., Lima, Ohio.
The accident occurred at 3:19 p.m.
Pole hit
A Jay County Highway Department plow driver hit a telephone pole Wednesday morning.
Rickey D. Twigg, 51, 307 N. Hendricks St., Bryant, was plowing snow on county road 1150 West north of Ind. 67 when his plow left the road and hit a Verizon utility pole.
An estimated $2,500 to $5,000 of damage was caused to the pole and the 1986 Ford F350, registered to Jay County Commissioners, 120 N. Court St., Portland, in the 10:14 a.m. accident.
In area courts
In Celina Municipal Court recently, Gary J. Pottkotter, 57, 2079 Ohio 119, Fort Recovery, was fined $276 for overweight load.[[In-content Ad]]
