Running

A rural Redkey man has joined the race for an at-large seat on the Jay County Council.

Jim Zimmerman, 6922 West 700 South, Redkey, is the third Republican in the race, along with two Democrats. The top two primary contestants will move on to the general election, where the top two vote-getters will earn seats on the council. Zimmerman is a member of the Jay County Planning Commission.

Other Republicans who have filed include incumbent Marilyn Coleman and Judy LeMaster. Incumbent Democrat Andy Schemenaur has filed to run for re-election, joining Lisa Barnett in the race.

U.S. Rep. Mike Pence, R-Columbus, whose 6th District includes Jay, Randolph and Adams counties, filed paperwork Wednesday to run for a third term in office.

He is currently unopposed for the Republican nomination and there have been no Democratic filers.

Filing for May’s Jay School Board and primary elections closes Friday at noon.

Arrested

A Dunkirk man was arrested Wednesday by Dunkirk police for theft, a class D felony.

A Jay Superior Court warrant was issued Wednesday for the arrest of Chris D. Jones, 34, 333 W. Commerce St.

As of this morning, Jones was being held at the Jay County Jail on $3,000 bond.

Information on the circumstances that led to his arrest were not available this morning.

Fined

The Indiana State Department of Health has issued two fines totaling $5,000 to Adams County Memorial Hospital, doing business as Woodcrest Nursing Center, 1300 Mercer Ave. in Decatur.

The fines are based on the findings of a survey that was completed by the Indiana State Department of Health on Oct. 10, 2003.

The survey said that the facility failed to ensure that a resident who entered the facility without pressure sores did not develop pressure sores. The fine issued for this violation was $2,500.

The survey also said that the facility failed to ensure that each resident received adequate supervision and assistance devices to prevent accidents. The fine issued for this violation was $2,500.

A follow-up survey on Dec. 5, 2003 showed that the issues cited in the Oct. 10 survey had been corrected.

Deaths

Nina Yoder Rape, 94, Berne, a former resident of Geneva.

Raymond Lykins, 75, Dunkirk.
