Filers
Incumbent members of Jay County Commissioners and Jay County Council have filed to run for another term.
Gary Theurer, a Democrat and current Commissioner of the South District, filed paperwork this morning to run for another term. Theurer’s address is 7163 South 700 East, Union City.
Also seeking another term in an at-large seat on the county council is Democrat Andy Schemenaur, 572 South 600 East, Portland.
The period for filing to run in the May 4 primary and Jay School Board election ends at noon on Friday, Feb. 20.
Sentenced
A rural Geneva man was sentenced to 60 days in jail on Jan. 13 in Adams Superior Court.
Chance M. Ehr, 19, 995 West 950 South, was sentenced to an additional 60 days in the Adams County Jail for violating his probation by being arrested for resisting law enforcement, a class D felony, and driving while intoxicated, a class A misdemeanor.
In addition to Ehr’s 60-day sentence, he was ordered to pay $400 in restitution and $334.50 in court costs and probation fees. He also was ordered to serve three years probation, and his driver’s license was suspended for three months.
Spelling
The 2003-04 Mercer County Spelling Bee will be held on Monday, Jan. 26, at 7 p.m. in the Wright State University-Lake Campus auditorium.
Twenty-five students from Mercer County will participate in the spelling bee. These students represent the school districts in Fort Recovery, Coldwater, Marion Parkway and St. Henry.
Fort Recovery students Stacey O’Dell, Preston Jutte, Nicole Pottkotter, Beverly Lennartz and Kinsey Wenning will compete in Monday’s spelling bee.
If the event is canceled due to inclement weather, the spelling bee will be postponed to Tuesday, Jan. 27 at the same time and location.
